10 Favorite Movie/Song Remakes

Time for Ten On Tuesday. These are not in order of best liked to least, merely in the order I thought of them.

  1. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
  2. Forever Young – Jerry Garcia Band – originally by Bob Dylan
  3. Twelve Monkeys (1995)
  4. Fisherman’s Blues – Railroad Earth – originally by The Waterboys
  5. The Birdcage (1996)
  6. 3:10 to Yuma (2007)
  7. I Will – Alison Krauss – originally by The Beatles
  8. Chim-Chim-Cher-Ee – Seldom Scene – originally from Mary Poppins
  9. Halloween (2007)
  10. The Ring (2002)

Kind of funny that most of the movie remakes I’ve liked are horror movies.

Ten On Tuesday

Bittersweet

This week’s Ten On Tuesday theme is 10 Things You Want But Can’t Afford, but I agree with Carole that this is a depressing theme. We’re kind of broke right now, so I’m trying to think about what we have and not what we don’t. The latter is a great big list, but the former is a pretty big list on its own. Broke or not, we’re pretty fortunate around here, so I don’t want to dwell on material goods* that I lust after.

So instead, I’m following Carole’s lead and going, instead, with a theme of 10 Things You Love About Fall:

  1. The crisp weather and chill breezes. I dream about this all through the summer heat.
  2. The glorious colors.
  3. The whirr of wings as geese fly overhead while taking a walk at dusk. It always makes me stop to watch them fly by.
  4. Samhain, which is my second favorite holiday after Mabon.
  5. Apple picking.
  6. The beginning of soup and stew season.
  7. Autumn veggies like butternut squash and broccoli and brussels sprouts.
  8. Pumpkin picking and carving.
  9. The endless amusement I get watching the cats as the wind blows the leaves around outside and they try to leap at them through the window.
  10. The bginning of knits season.

* The number 1 thing on a list of that theme would actually have been unlimited IVF attempts and number two would have been donor eggs, but the rest would have been material things.

10 Things You Need to Plan For

Time for this week’s Ten on Tuesday.

  1. Any kind of trip. I’m not really a seat of my pants person when it comes to travelling. I need to have an idea of what we’ll be doing and where we’ll be staying. Though I would love to be one of those people who could take off to Europe at the last minute, I know that such a trip would make me anxious.
  2. Buying a house or apartment, though we haven’t been too good about planning for this.
  3. Adoption, though I’m overplanning this to the point of paralysis.
  4. Retirement.
  5. Another cat. It’s a long way away, but when the next cat joins the family, I want it to be planned and not “look at the cute kitty outside! I want her!”
  6. Buying a new car, which hopefully we won’t need to do for a long time. But I know that we will have to at some point, so I’d like to be prepared for it.
  7. Fire, which is why we keep a fire extinguisher in the house.
  8. Injuries. I’m a whiz with a first aid kit.
  9. The zombie apocalypse. It’s coming. Are YOU prepared?
  10. . Natural disaster. It’s fortunate that we have few enough of those around here, because Scott and I are woefully unprepared for anything major.

10 Things You Think are Cool

Time for Ten On Tuesday, and I’m even on time this week.

  1. Kindles – I am in serious lust and so envious of E’s
  2. Tattoos
  3. Cupcakes – I don’t care that donuts are the new IT food, I still love pretty cupcakes and think they’re cool
  4. My DVR – I can’t remember how I ever lived without being able to pause live TV
  5. My camera
  6. Knitting
  7. Pat Rothfuss – though he, himself, would probably disagree, I think he’s one cool dude
  8. Ice hockey
  9. Colorado
  10.  These guys:

Railroad Earth

10 Bad Habits You Can’t Break

(I started this in the Denver airport, but didn’t have time to finish it.)

It’s Wednesday – I think; it is, right? – but here’s my Ten On Tuesday! My excuse is we were up in a cottage in Lyons, CO and had no Internet access on Tuesday. Now I’m sitting in the Denver airport and this is a good way to pass the time.

  1. Biting my nails
  2. Staying up way too late
  3. Stress/emotional eating
  4. Procrastinating
  5. Letting the dishes pile up too much before loading the dishwasher
  6. Letting clutter build up around the house
  7. Interrupting others while they’re speaking when I’m excited
  8. Rarely being ready on time, which leads to…
  9. …rarely arriving anywhere on time
  10. Being lazy about ironing

10 Things You Hate About Traveling

I’ve been meaning to start doing Ten On Tuesday for a while, and now I finally am. This is a timely one, with the Colorado trip looming on Friday. This is in no particular order, though the item in the number 1 spot is definitely my number 1 thing I hate about traveling.

  1. The TSA. Everything about the TSA. From the long lines cause by the ridiculous screening to having to take off my shoes to having to use the Baggie of Protection for shampoo.
  2. Eating out for every meal. It really wreaks havoc on my body, and on my wallet.
  3. Flight delays.
  4. Airports without free WiFi.
  5. Hotels without ANY WiFi.
  6. The cost of airfare.
  7. Overpacking, which I seem to do every single trip.
  8. Lugging around a big laptop.
  9. All that overpacking and still forgetting something essential.
  10. Having to come home when you’re still having a great time.
