A Rare Occurance

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

My knitting needles are empty. All of them. I’m not knitting anything!

At long last, I just finished Scott’s Berkshire Pullover, about half an hour ago. The ends are woven - blessedly few, thanks to spit splicing (with water, not spit, thank you very much) - and it’s spinning free of its Soak water right now. I’m still not happy with the neck, but whatever. It’s a casual sweater, so no big deal. As long as his head fits through it.

In with the sweater is a purple scarf knit in Misti Alpaca, in a horizontal rib pattern. This was knit for a secret Santa swap and will be shipped out to its new home this weekend.

Lady Eleanor is off the needles, her ends are woven in, and she’s been soaked and blocked. She’s just waiting for me to finish cleaning the kithen so I have space on the kitchen table to work the knotted fringe. She is stunning even without it.

I think I’ll cast on for a pair of socks today. Or maybe for Ice Queen. I just got my Fire Mountain Gems order today, with the beads I need for Ice Queen, so it’s most likely going to be that project that gets started today.

Photos of everything completed will be forthcoming once they’re dry.

November Got Away From Me

Friday, November 30th, 2007

This past week, especially. It’s Friday already? Really?

I had an idea a while ago about knitting a pair of IVF socks for retrieval and transfer. Those stirrups are cold, and the room is cold, and those little paper booties don’t cut it. So I’ve been researching fertility colors and symbols to come up with a pattern. I decided on orange, which represents the sacral (or womb) chakra. The pattern hasn’t yet been decided, but because it’s already December tomorrow, I suppose I need to make up my mind. Before I know it, it will be the end of December and I’ll be back to begin IVF v2.0.

In other knitting news, I recently stole Scott’s Secret Santa recipient out from under him in a swap we’re doing on a message board. I planned on keeping my own recipient, but when people started posting wish lists, Scott’s recipient said she’d like a purple handknit scarf. How could I resist that? So I’m going to knit a purple scarf in chunky alpaca. That should be a pretty quick knit, which should help with this whole “where is the time running off to?” problem.

This Is Not Going to Improve Crochet’s Image

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Crochet pretty much gets a bad rap, and is often spoken of in sneering tones. The fact that Vanna White now has her own line of 100% acrylic yarn and crochet patterns probably isn’t going to help propel crochet into chic circles any time soon.
